On Stage Projects

VOICES On Stage Projects are diversity and equity in action through the arts. We embody devised theater as the process to discover, cultivate, and express each unique and individual voice in our community.

These projects weave together the richness of stories from all walks of life and all corners of the community into our shared cultural tapestry.

Women’s VOICES

Women’s VOICES Project was inspired by VOICES’ founder Barbara Reese, whose voice had been silent for 50 years before discovering her affinity for poetry. Today, these multi-generational and multi-racial voices of women tell stories of survival, resilience, love, healing, and our deep connections to one another and to the natural world.

Women from our community come together and start in a story circle to get the stories flowing. From there, a script is curated based off lived experiences and perspectives, creating one-of-a kind theater.

Past Performances:

QUEER VOICES

Queer VOICES was created to spotlight the vibrant experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals in our valley, honoring the journeys that shape who they are. Today, these multi-generational queer voices offer stories of pride, vulnerability, connection, humor, and the continual act of claiming space.

Participants gather in a story circle where stories surface naturally. From those conversations, a script is crafted from real lives and real moments, resulting in a unique, expressive performance.

Past Performances:

Nuestras VOCES

Nuestras VOCES was created to uplift the voices and lived experiences of our Latiné community, honoring the stories that connect generations, cultures, and traditions. Today, these multi-generational voices share stories of migration, identity, family, resilience, joy, and the deep ties that bind us to one another and to home.

Through a collaborative storytelling process, personal narratives are shaped into a script drawn from real experiences and perspectives, resulting in a one-of-a-kind, story-driven performance.

Past Performances:

Sage VOICES

Sage VOICES was created to honor the wisdom, memories, and lived experiences of older members of our community (ages 75+) while fostering meaningful connection with younger generations (typically ages 11–15). This intergenerational collaboration brings together sage storytellers and youth performers, where relationships are formed and creativity is sparked.

Today, these voices—rich with history and perspective—share stories of love, loss, growth, humor, and the moments that have shaped a lifetime.

Through reflection and shared experience, these stories are developed into a script rooted in personal truth, culminating in a performance that is both intimate and deeply resonant.

Past Performances:

REAL STORIES, REAL PEOPLE, real impact.

At VOICES, storytelling is how we build community. Through our programs In School, In Community, and On Stage, we create space for people to be heard, honored, and remembered. We do this by providing a page, a canvas, a microphone, and a stage, to discover the layers of humanity within us and the community. Join us in bringing these stories to life.
